Treat your dog to this simple, delicious Cinnamon Chicken recipe with rice, and vegetables. A home cooked pet meal that is tasty and healthy.

The inspiration for this recipe came from a friend, whose dogs had lost his appetite, had stomach issues, had blood in his stool at times and was generally looking sad. The vet promptly prescribed expensive medications which was not much help. After having this recipe however the dog perked right up and was back to normal within a week.

Most dog food, even the very best cannot compare with freshly made home cooked food. Dogs suffer from diabetes, digestive issues and other ailment just like us humans. Why would we give dry pet food that can often damage their intestinal linings. We suspect pet companies are in cahoots with the drug companies to treat them when they get sick eating processed pet food.

Some people prefer to give pet food because their poop is dry and easier to clean up. That seems like a cruel way to treat your pet who gives so much.

We used used organic Chicken breast with the approximate recommended ratio of protein (50%), grain (25%) and vegetables (25%). The calories in this meal is slightly less than the daily calorie needs but you can make it up with some dog treats. To calculate your dogs calorie needs visit here.

CINNAMON FOR PETS

You can give Ceylon Cinnamon for pets. While other spices like pepper, chilli powder are not suitable for pets, you can give Cinnamon for pets. It improves food palatability and warms those bones during winter, helps digestion, disinfects meat to reduce the risk of bacterial infections, promotes bone and cartilage development, stabilizes blood sugar levels and improves overall health.

Ceylon Cinnamon has ultra low Coumarin levels and will not damage your pets liver like ordinary Cassia Cinnamon. Use at a similar rate as per humans, scaled to the weight of the pet.

Adding just a dash of Ceylon Cinnamon with their meals is bound to deliver good benefits. Don't over do it. Just a few times per week, up to a maximum of five days per week. Just use the chart below to calculate how much cinnamon should be added per day.

Weight of pet Cinnamon Powder Cinnamon stick tea
  1 -10 lbs. 1/16 teaspoon less than 1/4 cup, 1-3 times/day
  10-20 lbs. 1/16-1/8 teaspoon 1/4 cup, 1-3 times/day
  20-50 lbs. 1/8 tsp ½ teaspoon 1/4-1/2 cup, 1-3 times/day

The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) recommends that dry dog food contains at least 0.3% sodium, and that dry cat food contains at least 0.2% sodium. These are minimum recommended levels for health. However it is difficult to ascertain if this percentage is based on weight or calories or something else. It would nice if they could give a figure on grams of salt per pound of dog weight. We believe a little bit of salt is essential for dogs so ask your Veterinarian how much salt your dog can take daily.
